Before launching its flagship smartphone Meizu Pro 6s, Meizu has introduced to us a new budget smartphone — Meizu M5. Along with the smartphone, the company has also launched Meizu TV Box and H1 Smart Band at an event in China.
The Meizu M5 is built out of plastic and will be available in Glacier White, Mint Green, Champagne Gold, Sapphire, and Matte Black color options.
The phone comes with a 5.2-inch IPS display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. Under the hood, it is powered by MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor, paired along with Mali-T860 GPU.
In terms of memory, there are two variants of the device – one with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, while another with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. However, the company has also included a microSD card with support for up to 128GB.
In the camera department, the Meizu M5 comes with a 13MP rear camera with PDAF, LED flash and f/2.2 aperture. The front shooter includes a 5MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture. The 4G LTE smartphone comes with a hybrid SIM card slot.
For added layer of security, the M5 comes with a fingerprint scanner. Interestingly, it can also be used to make payments via Alipay and WeChat.
The highlight of the phone is, however, its operating system — Flyme OS, which is powered by Alibaba’s Yun OS. The phone is powered by a 3070mAh non-removable battery, which is said to give 66 hours of music playback time.
The Meizu M5 is priced at 699 Yuan (Rs. 6,999) and 899 Yuan (Rs. 8,999) for the 2GB and 3GB RAM variants respectively. The M5 will be available to pre-order starting tomorrow and will be up for sale starting November 7th on Meizu store and Tmall.
Along with the smartphone, the company has also unveiled the ‘Meizu Box’ which is a Flyme TV OS powered set-top box. It basically brings smart features to the regular television. It has a 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 2GHz, with Mali-450 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It also comes with a Bluetooth remote control which also supports voice search.
Meizu H1 Smart Band that was also launched at the event comes with an OLED display and a heart rate sensor. It is a fitness tracker that comes with a bracelet like design. It has an IP certification for waterproof and dustproof capabilities. It is priced at 499 Yuan (Rs 4,990) and is expected to go on sale shortly.
