During the on-going festive sale, e-commerce companies such as Flipkart claims to have created record in terms of sales. However, these e-commerce portals aren’t the only one to have created record. Chinese upstart Xiaomi has also joined the list and sold more than 500,000 smartphones in just 72 hours.
Xiaomi, which has been ruling the online smartphone market with its mid-range offerings, is claiming that the company has sold more than half million smartphones on Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal during last three days of the online sales.
Last year, during such sale event, it took around 30 days for Xiaomi to reach half million mark. However, this time, the company was geared up with more stock ahead of the sale. Further, the company also planned its new product launch keeping the festive sale season in mind, which gave boost to the company’s sales.
As per Manu Jain, head of India operations at Xiaomi, the smartphones of the company were available on five online platforms. On Amazon, Redmi Note 3 was the top selling smartphone, while Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime were the top selling smartphones on Flipkart. He said:
We have sold 0.5 million phones in less than 72 hours, in three days on Amazon and Snapdeal -and a day on Flipkart -which means two phones sold each second. Last year, we sold more than 0.5 million units in 30 days during October.
We had started planning meticulously for Diwali sales six months in advance, and steadily increased production with Foxconn but this is a new benchmark for us… From what we know, no other brand has achieved this quantity online or offline ever.
The company said it has run out of stock of its top selling devices. But, given that demand will keep on rising leading up to Diwali, Xiaomi is working with manufacturer Foxconn to increase local production and ensure stock supplies to online and offline channels.
Also, the end of the festive sale on the e-commerce platforms is not the end of offers from Xiaomi. As per Manu Jain, the company is planning another similar sale event on its own portal before Diwali.
Xiaomi has been selling about 1 million to 1.5 million smartphones every quarter this year. But, with the large sale uptick for the first week of October, the company is set to have this quarter as the best one till now.
Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal, all three firms have claimed record sales numbers in their respective festival sales events. Flipkart claimed that it sold more than half a million products within an hour on the first day of Big Billion Days sales. Amazon India said it received a billion hits in the first 14 hours of the first day of its sale and claimed that it sold more than 100,000 units in the first half-hour of the first day.
