After Google started rolling-out update of its latest Android build — Android 7.0 Nougat, Sony has announced the list of its smartphone that will receive update.
Sony announced this news about Android Nougat update on its official mobile blog. The company said:
We’ve been working hard to bring this major update to as many of our devices as possible, as quickly as we can. We’re really excited about the new Sony features & functionality and the improvements we’ve made to the user experience – and we’ll be sharing more soon.
The list of Sony devices that will receive latest Android build includes Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra and Xperia X Performance.
Notably, the company has not included Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 smartphones in the list. This could mean that the entire line-up of Z2 and Z3 may miss out from the update.
While Sony has revealed the list of devices that will get Android 7.0 Nougat update, the company has not specified timeline for the same. However, it mentioned that “rollouts are a phased process – timing and availability will vary by market and/or operator”.
Sony isn’t the first company to announce the list of devices for the new update. HTC was the first one to announce the list of devices for Nougat update, right after the announcement of Android 7.0. HTC will provide update to HTC 10, One A9, One M9.
Google has officially started rolling out Android Nougat to Nexus devices. However, it is a relatively slow rollout. The update will be available on Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One).
It must be noted that the first smartphone to ship with Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box will be the LG V20. The new Android build comes with several new features like improved notification shade and split-screen multitasking, improved Doze feature, among others.
