After almost 81 years, India gets its first car from the North American continent in the form of the iconic Ford Mustang. Ford Motor Co. announced on Tuesday that the powerhorse will be available for Rs.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The first phase of launch will be all about sales in Delhi and Mumbai.
In Ford’s 52 years, this is the first time the company has launched the car in the Indian market. Strangely enough, the Detroit company has been in India since 1996. Anyhow, the launch of the new Mustang marks the entry of the super-car maker into one of the world’s largest auto market.
The Mustang launched today is powered by a 5.0L V8 petrol engine, capable of churning out a massive 401 PS of peak power. The car is capable of a top speed of up to 250 kmph. Globally, the new Ford Mustang with a 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine that delivers 310 brake horse power (bhp), but this variant will not be sold in India.
The car was first unveiled in India on 29 January.
Looking into basics, this is the first Mustang in its 52 year old history to come as a right hand drive model. The car comes as the sixth generation of the iconic Mustang series. Stats show that Ford has sold over 110,000 Mustangs of this model globally in 2015.
In terms of features, the car comes with 19-inch wheels, automatic HID headlamps, LED tail lamps, a rear diffuser, dual-zone climate control, 9-speaker sound system, and voice-enabled SYNC 2 connectivity with an 8-inch colour touchscreen as standard equipment. You can surely customize is more than that, if you prefer.
Until now, we saw Ford sell models like the EcoSport and the Endeavour in India. It exists in the country via a wholly owned subsidiary.
