Samsung has today unveiled the latest iterations of its hugely successful Galaxy J budget smartphone series. The Korean tech giant at an event in Delhi announced the launch of two new additions to the Galaxy J series, the J2 2016 model and the J Max.
The beautiful and innovative Galaxy J2 2016 is the successor to its elder brethren — the Galaxy J2, which was launched earlier in 2015. It is also the company’s latest addition to its 4G enabled smartphone arsenal, which forms over 60 per cent of India’s 4G market.
The device features a vibrant 5-inch Super AMOLED display as compared to the 4.7-inch qHD display on the previous gen J2. The bright, colorful and immersive display is complemented by the chrome bezels and the soft rounded edges that ensure a comfortable grip. The matte-finish patterned back also gives the phone a premium look and feel.
Talking about the internal specifications, the J2 2016 is powered by a Spreadtrum SC8830 quad-core processor clocked at 1.5 Ghz. The device is packed with 1.5 GB RAM and 8 GB of on-board storage, which is only a minor bump when compared to its predecessor. However, the device comes with dual SIM card slots and also a micro SD card slot, which can be used to expand storage upto 128 GB. To handle the graphic demands of the smartphone, it has been fitted with a Mali-400 GPU.
With the latest iteration, Samsung has also introduced some significant improvements on the camera front. The device now sports an 8MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, while the front camera(or the selfie cam) is now a 5MP shooter. It also packs in a 2,600 mAh battery to power the smartphone.
In addition to this, the smartphone runs on Samsung’s skinned version of Android Marshmallow 6.o — the (in)famous TouchWiz. In terms of connectivity, the phone is completely 4G LTE compatible and includes a host of pre-defined connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port.
But what makes the J2 2016 stand-out are the two new features that Samsung has introduced with this smartphone:
- Turbo Speed Technology: The Korean tech giant has re-engineered the core to provide a superior device performance, including reducing native app loading time by upto 40 percent. TST runs in the background and pro-actively shuts down idle processes running in the background and de-clutters the RAM using its intelligent memory system. This kills the need for a huge load of RAM to be embedded in the internals.
- Smart Glow LED Notification: This is Samsung’s attempt at designing a next-gen LED notification system, that is in the shape of a ring that runs around the rear camera. Designed around the idea of de-cluttering(again!!) notification, the Smart Glow LED Ring can be customized to send upto four priority notifications. This feature could also be couple with the rear camera to click higher mega-pixel selfies using the Selfie Assist feature.
Also, the device comes with additional features, like S bike mode and Ultra Data Saving mode to add to the ease and control of the device. The J2 2016 model will be available in three different color variants — black, silver and golden. The J Max packs almost the same specifications as the J2 2016, but just comes with a larger 7-inch display and a hefty tag price.
In India, the Samsung Galaxy J2 2016 will be available from July 14 at an affordable price of Rs. 9,749/- while the J Max will be available by the end of July at a price of Rs. 13,400/-.
