Close to four months after announcing it at the IFA in Berlin last year, Samsung has finally launched its Tizen-OS based smartwatch – Gear S2 in India. The smartwatch makes its India debut in two different variants – Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic.

It features a 1.2-inch circular dial with Super AMOLED display with screen resolution of 130 x 130 pixels and is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 3. The smart device, which is powered by Tizen OS, comes with 4 GB of internal storage and 512 MB of RAM.

Powered by 1.0GHz dual core processor and 250mAh battery, it also features a built-in heart rate sensor. The battery is said to last for 1-2 days. The device will be available with a leather band. The company is also offering a variety of band options in mendini, warm grey and red for Gear S2 and grey leather and brown leather for Gear S2 Classic.

The Gear S2 also comes with some new fitness functions to encourage users to stay healthy and active. The S Health app for example, activity sensors and 24H Heart Rate monitor work together to track calorie burn. The company claims to have improved tracking with more exercise modes such as freehand and weight training, rep counts, etc.

It also sends reminder updates to motivate users to stay on track with their fitness goals. Users can also use third party apps available at the Gear App store. Along with the fitness related apps, users can also have access to games and entertainment apps such as music player, etc.

The Samsung Gear S2 will be available in Dark Grey and Silver colours with a sporty band while the Samsung Gear S2 Classic will be available in a Black colour with a Leather band.

A variety of band options are also available with both the Gear S2 (Mendini, Warm Grey and Red) and the Gear S2 Classic (Grey leather and Brown leather) from Samsung.

The Gear S2 is priced at Rs. 24,300 whle the Gear S2 Classic is priced at Rs. 25,800 in India. It will be available across all Samsung retail channels. Flipkart is the online partner for Gear S2.

Along with the Gear S2 smartwatch, Samsung has also launched its Gear VR headset, which is powered by Oculus. The Gear VR weighs 310 grams, which is around 19% lighter than the Innovator Edition launched earlier. However, it is compatible with select smartphones only, which includes Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, S6 and S6 Edge.

The Samsung Gear VR delivers Virtual Reality on the go, powered by the Super AMOLED display of the Galaxy smart phones. You get a 96 degree wide field of view allowing you to have an extremely immersive viewing experience. The Gear VR is crafted in a way to provide reduced motion blur and therefore less or no dizziness.

The Oculus powered VR is also equipped with a Pass-Through feature that allows users to stay connected with the real world, getting notifications of incoming calls or messages.

Consumers can play and experience over 150+ games and apps on the Samsung Gear VR. This growing list of content can be downloaded from the Oculus Store.
