CollegeDekho, an online platform which connects students with relevant and their preferred colleges, has grabbed a $1 million seed round of funding from GirnarSoft, the parent company of online automobile marketplace (and similar sounding portal) CarDekho.com.

CollegeDekho plans to use this fresh capital to further develop its platform and make it more diversified and comprehensive. It will also use the money to build its team and start marketing efforts. As per the company’s founder, the company was bootstrapped until now.

Founded by Ruchir Arora and Arshinder Randhawa, CollegeDekho is a platform which can be used to interact with students and colleges. It connects colleges and their course listings with interested students, thus helping colleges get more interested candidates for their courses and in turn helping students select the most suitable courses for their pursual.

Ruchir Arora, the CEO and co-founder says that his platform aims to provide students with authentic, comprehensive and unbiased information regarding colleges. There is also a mobile application for Android users available on Play Store.

Ruchir Arora, CEO and founder, CollegeDekho, commented,

CollegeDekho has been established to provide a transparent, open platform that facilitates interaction between students and colleges. Through this venture, we aim to provide students with authentic, comprehensive and unbiased information. This will help them in evaluating and selecting the career option most suited to their interests and proficiency.

It includes features such as step-by-step search tool that uses basic interests to figure out appropriate colleges and chat forums for prospective and enrolled students in the same college. The website also provides information on a variety of entrance exams and rankings.

Commenting about the investment in the company, Amit Jain, CEO and co-founder, Girnar Soft, said,

Higher education in India is a market segment that requires a fresh approach to overcome the incumbent inertia. We quite liked the idea of a disruptive development that could assist students in making more informed choices. Additionally, the synergy and the strength of the vision driving the team at CollegeDekho also played a vital role in convincing us to invest so deeply into the venture.

There are many online portals which provides information related to colleges and courses offered by them. However, almost none of them have received any signification amount of funding.

I was also wondering whether the same-name thing has got something to do with the funding…just lite humour..nothing much.
