Artificial intelligence and machine learning have already been deployed across a range of sectors. From social media algorithms to customer service chatbots, digital assistants to Google Maps using real-time information on roadworks to re-calculate a route, we are experiencing the essence of AI. One sector is set to see greater benefits of AI, as shown through the developments in the field achieved by study app Quizlet. But what does this tell us about how AI may benefit the education sector – and how this may in turn benefit the future of AI?

Quizlet’s AI App

Study app Quizlet is planning to use machine learning with its Quizlet Learning Assistant feature. Taking past performance and data gathered from machine learning, the feature will aim to make it easier for people to learn in a way personalised to them. CEO Matthew Glotzbach suggests the feature will use machine learning to do on the app what a tutor might do through setting specific paths of study and helping analyse areas that need more practice.

Other learning apps, such as Duolingo, have proven popular and show that learning through our smartphones could be the next way in which we develop education in later life. The lack of need for a tutor could help more people gain access to education resources who previously wouldn’t have been able to.

AI University

In Abu Dhabi, the first AI university has selected the 101 students who will attend its inaugural year. The grads, hailing from 31 countries, will begin studying in January 2021 at the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. So, not only does AI look to be fuelling the education sector, but the education sector is helping increase the ability for AI to do so.

By learning specifically and from world-renowned experts about AI, machine learning, and how it can be better utilized, the university is showing a commitment to the future of technology. The world is already battling to see which nation will be the one leading the way in the AI field. One of the most time-consuming tasks for the education sector is the admin work that needs to be done – AI is already helping to automate this to free up time for actual teaching.

How Can AI Gain More Support?

Seeing AI on our phones and as a viable option for post-grad education helps to legitimize it. The key for AI now, to convince the mainstream that it is a viable technology for the future, would be to show how it can be used. The traditional education sector is one that has largely gone unchanged for centuries but can be enhanced through AI technology. By convincing people of its ability to benefit the sector, more people are likely to invest and help the industry grow, which will expediate the way it can change our lives.

Artificial intelligence, and companies that harness some aspects of this technology, are positioning themselves as the future of tech and business. As the selection of brokers listed here shows, people can choose to invest in companies, including those which are floated on stock markets around the world – NYSE, NASDAQ, LSE – and focus primarily on AI technology. So, it’s beneficial for people to understand how AI works and how it could tangibly improve their lives as they may end up investing and improving AI companies’ positions in the stock market.

Artificial intelligence is no doubt the future of technology. One of the best ways to get people on board is through a sector that any digital change will be noticeable and which many people will see the benefit of. By enhancing the education sector for later in life through AI, a major obstacle to many people continuing studies could be overcome. Thus, people would be more likely to understand how AI is a viable option going forwards.
