In what comes as a huge shock to comic fans and movie-buffs across the globe, legendary writer Stanley Martin Lieber, better known as Stan Lee, has died at the age of 95. Known for creating universes that have garnered hundreds of millions of fans, and for appearing in multiple blockbuster superhero movies, Stan Lee leaves behind a rich legacy, and a void that can not be filled.
Remembering Stan, Disney CEO Bob Iger said:
Stan Lee was as extraordinary as the characters he created. A super hero in his own right to Marvel fans around the world, Stan had the power to inspire, to entertain, and to connect. The scale of his imagination was only exceeded by the size of his heart.
It won’t be stretching the truth to say that Lee was responsible for single-handedly creating a major portion of the marvel universe. From Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Mighty Thor, X-Men and Black Panther, Lee create stories and characters that have played a major role in shaping what is arguable the most popular comic universe ever created.
Apart from creating these incredible story lines, Stan Lee would also be remembered for being the face of Marvel comics. From appearing in stories and books, to his cameos in blockbuster superhero movies such as Avengers, The Amazing Spider-man etc., Lee will forever be remembered as one of the chief architects of modern superhero culture.
Rest in peace, Stan Lee. You will be missed, and remembered, a superhero in your own right.
