OnePlus TV

After five years of focusing on making “flagship killer” smartphones, the China-based OnePlus is now all set to enter the smart TV market. The company has announced its plan to launch a smart TV named OnePlus TV next year.

Currently, the company has not revealed any details such as screen size and the operating system running the smart TV model. However, the company has already revealed that the TV will be powered by artificial intelligence.

Announcing this new OnePlus TV, Pete Lau, Founder & CEO of the company, said,

We want to bring the home environment to the next level of intelligent connectivity. To do this, we are building a new product of OnePlus’ premium flagship design, image quality, and audio experience to more seamlessly connect the home. We call it: OnePlus TV.

This is a huge step in the OnePlus journey, but like each step along the way, one that we have taken with intense consideration and deliberation. There is a great challenge in pushing new boundaries in technology and innovation, but even greater fulfillment in meeting people around the world impacted by our products every day. Here’s to taking the next step together.

The upcoming smart TV from OnePlus will have an AI-backed assistant but the company didn’t elaborate on whether it would use Amazon’s Alexa or Google Assistant. While there’s no information about the specifications, we are expecting a 4K HDR panel to keep up with the market.

Pete Lau will lead this new TV division along with the smartphones division that he is currently leading. He says that the OnePlus TV is currently in the early stage of development and will debut in 2019.
