DJI, Spark

DJI’s Seize the Moment event is currently taking place in New York and is playing host to some truly interesting announcement. The company has just announced a new, highly portable drone unit called the Spark.

The new drone is very aptly named, considering that it is pretty minuscule. DJI is known for making things in small packages and only last year, the company released the highly portable, carry it along Mavic Pro. The drone was an instant hit and the idea of carrying the drone on your back, flying it around, and then putting it back inside its nest was one that appealed to a lot of people.

The newly released Spark takes the concept even further. The drone comes with fixed arms and brushless motors that at first glance, appear very similar to the Mavic’s, except in their dimensions. A panel above the camera and, the bottom of the drone is where the sensors seem to be hidden. And the weight of course, is the crown here. The drone weighs merely .6 pounds. So that is like the weight of half a pound of bread.

Jokes apart though, the Spark really is small and what is even better is its price tag. The drone breaks the $1000 barrier DJI has held to until now with its flying contraptions and costs merely $499. That is pretty cheap for a drone with the capabilities DJI is claiming it has.

We are still getting all the details, but contrary to expectations and its small size notwithstanding, the Spark seems to be a drone geared towards taking aerial footage as compared to a device built for esports and racing.

Stay tuned and we will be back with even more details about the tiny, DJI Spark.
