Vodafone becomes the first (and biggest!) telecom company to partner with Amazon Prime Video in India. The company announced this collaboration on Sunday which will allow consumers to experience Amazon Prime under a special offer on Vodafone’s SuperNet 4G network starting March 22. With the said move, Vodafone wants to ensure its customers are provided with freedom and flexibility they ask for concerning their content consumption pattern.
The partnership will also allow customers an exclusive access to Bollywood and Hollywood movies, TV shows, regional cinema, kids programming and global Amazon originals available through their Amazon Prime subscription. It will further strengthen Vodafone’s content proposition in the country and will assist in offering the best connectivity to millions of customers along with some unique privileges.
Announcing the deal with Amazon Prime Video India, Sandeep Kataria, Vodafone India Director (Commercial) said,
The partnership makes available a wide range of latest, high-quality movies and TV shows to our millions of customers, giving them exclusive access to a diverse selection of entertainment and rich content with an unparalleled streaming experience on the data strong Vodafone SuperNetTM 4G network.
Under the offer, Vodafone customers will get a cashback of Rs.250 if they subscribe to Amazon Prime via the MyVodafone app or Vodafone Website. The present annual introductory subscription price for Amazon India is Rs. 499, hence the scheme provides a significant discount of Rs. 249. The cash back will be transferred to customers as their Amazon Pay Balance which can be used for shopping and extension of the services in future. However, the offer is limited to Vodafone customers using Android devices only.
Speaking about the partnership with Vodafone, Amazon Prime Video India Country Head Nitesh Kripalani said,
We are delighted to partner with Vodafone India to bring this unique offer first to Vodafone customers. This offer further extends our promise of delivering convenient, on-demand access to our large content selection to our customers. At Amazon Prime Video, our focus is on offering latest and exclusive movies and TV shows to customers on a reliable service, with great playback quality and low data usage.
This move from Amazon takes direct aim at rival on-demand content services, including Hotstar and Netflix available in the country. Moreover, there lies a massive difference in terms of monthly and yearly subscription plans with Amazon being the lowest of all. Adding to its benefits, post the merger with Idea today, Vodafone now stands as the largest telecom company in India holding a revenue market share of around 40%. The stats itself provide a plus point for Amazon Prime Video, striving to extend its reach across the country.
