snapchat, spectacles, snap

Snap has opened up a temporary store on the Venice boardwalk. The new shop is located near the company’s LA headquarters and allows customers to purchase Snap’s camera equipped Spectacles.

It is actually rather strange that Snap is opening a new store now, when its Spectacles are already available online. However, we are sure the company had its reasons. The new store meanwhile, follows a pop-up shop in NYC that opened up on November 21st and closed almost exactly three months later.

The new store will be open from 11 AM to Sunset, as the company lies putting it. So make sure you check your almanac for the time the sun sets and make your way to the shop before that. Interestingly, the sales experience is almost identical to that of Snap’s New York City stores and there are no humans inside. None that you can see anyways.

Instead, all the shopping is done through a vending machine. Which kind of makes you scratch your head — if it was going to be a vending machine, why put a building around it? Undoubtedly, Snap has its own reasons for doing things the way it does. Perhaps, it is to build up hype or parhaps, the company is looking to move into permanent quarters and house its hardware products there.

Products, you ask? True, Snap just has its Spectacles at present. However, you didn’t think the company changed its name from Snapchat to Snap Inc. just so it could sell some fancy glasses, right? It is a camera company after all and from what we have heard, is looking into other products as well, including a drone and a 360-degree camera.

The company isn’t really generating much revenue from hardware, at least it wasn’t the last time it talked about the topic, which was earlier this year. However, that could change considering that Spectacles are now widely available and are not limited to Snap’s pop-up shops any longer. In light of all these facts, it makes sense for the company to open some physical stores. Meanwhile, this particular shop in Venice, will remain open for at least a few more weeks.
