With speculations for Apple’s upcoming iPhone running wild, one new report after another is surfacing on the interwebs. So far, the leaks curated suggest that Apple will most probably roll out three devices this year. While the first two are expected to be incremental updates to the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, the last one would be a new 5.8-inch device with an OLED display.
This leak was picked up again by Nikkei Asian Review today quoting a new note, thus, validating prior talks about the much-expected iPhone refresh. The report states that not only will the latest iPhone be furnished with a 5.8-inch OLED display but two new smaller variants — 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones will be introduced by Apple as well. These devices will be packed with LCD panels and would retail lower than the OLED variant. The fresh report read as under,
The upcoming iPhone, to be launched this fall, will come in three configurations — two with liquid crystal displays and one with a 5.8-inch organic light-emitting diode display.
Apart from it, the report suggests that Apple may also introduce a function area at the bottom of the phone.This function area would make for a roughly 5.15-inches of usable screen space and contribute to a massive front for the device. Apple might employ screen size marketing tactics similar to arch rivals Samsung and LG. The screen size and technology is also consistent with those predicted by the renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
The Cupertino giant is also facing supply constraints due to which the production may not initiate till September, this year. The supply issue majorly exists for the OLED display for which Apple is hunting a supplier near the production areas. The report further revealed the not-so-pocket-friendly price of iPhone 8, saying the Chinese smartphone market is continuing to slow, thus causing customers to be less likely to shell out money. However, the production for updated versions for the smaller variants is expected to begin this July itself.
