The North South Wales (NSW) government announced the names of the people who will make up the inaugural board of the Sydney School of Entrepreneurship (SSE) today.

The board is chaired by the President and Vice-Chancellor of the former University of New South Wales (UNSW) Mark Wainwright, and will bring together some of the best thought-leaders and professors in the field— Dr. Raji Ambikairajah, Professor Attila Brungs, Professor Kevin Hall, Professor Denise Kirkpatrick, Ms. Fiona Pak-Poy and Ms. Liane Sayer-Roberts.

Former Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship (for the past 10 years), Nick Kaye will be reporting to the board as Chief Executive Officer of SSE.

His 10 years of experience at the Stockholm School saw Kaye work with the school in building an outstanding reputation for providing a platform to students— who have gone on and demonstrated the success as a result of their learning, for example, three startups with a valuation of more than US$500 million each.

Deputy Premier of NSW and Minister for Skills, Regional NSW, and Small Business, John Barilaro, said:

The SSE board, led by Chairman Mark Wainwright, brings together remarkable expertise in education, start-ups, innovation and small business to help create an innovation powerhouse for NSW, driving our economy and creating exceptional job opportunities.

NSW Vice-Chancellor Committee Chair and SSE Board Member Professor Attila Brungs further adds,

The board will lead SSE’s operations and pave the way for dynamic input from our academic partners as well as the broader entrepreneurial community via entrepreneurs in residence, guest lecturers, mentors and extracurricular activities.

As a partnership between the twelve major NSW institutions— the University of Sydney, the University of Technology Sydney, University of North South Wales, and Technical and Further Education NSW, SSE, through mentorships and educational programs, will focus on supporting entrepreneurship and innovation.

Additionally, the new-found school will provide training, support, mentoring, and co-curricular to 1000 high achiever and honor students, enabling them to collaborate with peers in other institutions and contribute to the startup ecosystem in NSW.

SSE operations will commence with Semester One in 2017, and launch of coursework is planned for Semester Two in 2017.
