DataRadio, a voice-based social messaging feature was the newest addition to one of India’s leading email service provider — DataMail. Data Radio allows users to transmit messages to their followers, without being worried about online abuse, spamming or even being trolled. The said freeware app even permits users to attach themselves to a channel for broadcasting a message.
Thus, the innovative voice and text based one-way technology has today been introduced within the academic system of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT). The system has been released in partnership with Data Xgen Technologies to reach students across India. This development was revealed on the occasion of World Radio Day, celebrated on February 13.
Using the said feature, Students can initiate their own channels and add followers as per their interest. It will not only increase the pace of important communications but will also work as a notification channel. Commenting on the said launch, Dr. Ajay Data, founder and CEO of Data XGen Technologies said,
By empowering education institutions we are empowering students and allowing them to get ‘Knowledge beyondClassroom’. Make in India, DataMail app is a unique blend of linguistic email address service and voice-based social media feature – Data Radio.
DataRadio is an inbuilt feature for DataMail. A student can download the ‘DataMail’ app from Google PlayStore on their Android devices. A user of DataMail can then create a radio channel using a name of his or her choice. And, anyone who is aware of the name of their channel can subscribe to it. The broadcast message will appear in the notification sent by DataMail app and will not be shown in the mail.
It will allow users to communicate in their regional language, which is said to be one of the most significant features of the said application. The institution plans to generate examination alerts, results, announcement links, details of various events and technology tips through the DataRadio itself. NIELIT is set to notify all the existing and past students on the day to day announcements through the said feature only.
Sh. Ashwani Sharma, Director General of NIELIT gave his opinion on NIELIT’s recent step and said,
NIELIT has opened up ‘NIELIT’ Data Radio channel for the students of computer courses, computer hardware courses, Bio Informatics, BPO Course, Information Security, Multimedia and Animation technology, PG Diploma courses and other short term courses.
Speaking about National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) (erstwhile DOEACC Society) is an Autonomous Scientific Society under the administrative control of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Mo and IT), Government of India. The institution was set up to carry out Human Resource Development and related activities in the area of Information, Electronics and Communications Technology (IECT).
As DataRadio does not reveal the identity of the sender as well the receiver, it is one of the best ways to communicate with the students. The students can share their ideas, voice their concerns and impart knowledge to fellow students without any fear of abuse and being trolled off. Even faculties and mentors can open separate Data Radio channels to amplify their messages amongst their peer groups.
The activities currently planned for the broadcast includes the thought of the day, tips on cyber security, latest information like availability of admit cards, results etc. The audience can tune to the NIELIT channel and can listen to the voice messages. They can also read the text messages broadcast over the channel.
