Samsung’s most controversial smartphone Galaxy Note 7 has now returned to the company’s realm with over 96 percent of phones handed back till date. The company started the recalling process for its smartphone in September, which was further expanded to all Galaxy Note 7 devices — exchanged or returned by offering $100 credit to users.
Apart from an update on the recall process, the company also stated that the U.S. Department of Transportation has decided to remove the need for airlines to make specific pre-boarding notification regarding Galaxy Note 7. Back in October, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had decided to ban Note 7 aboard any aircraft even if the phone was shut down. This decision was taken after a Note 7 exploded in a Southwest Airlines flight in the same month.
The Note 7 was launched back in August’16, featuring an iris scanner. Only within a month of release, reports of battery explosions started surfacing the web. Thereby, it took a span of four months for the company to recall almost cent percent of its phones.
In order to retract the devices back, the company not only did issue free fire-proof return kits but also opened up exchange booths at major airports across globe. Moreover, the company blocked phone’s reach to connect to cellular networks and published a full page apology for the Note 7 inconvenience.
Despite the massive losses due to Note 7 scandal, the company still expects that the profits are likely to increase by 50 percent compared to the same quarter of previous year. They’ve been balanced, thanks to the company’s hassle-less chip and display business. Further, Samsung plans to debut its Note 8 in the second half of the year with an utmost faith in customer loyalty. The company previously stated,
The Galaxy Note 7 was very popular before user reports began circulating about devices that exploded or caught on fire while charging. As the phablet market, which was developed by Samsung Electronics, has been growing, the company will release the Note series this year again.
Samsung is expected to publicize the investigation results for the Note 7 this month. At the recently ended electronics show CES 2017, the company’s America president and COO Tim Baxter gave a word in reference to Note 7 saying that the reports will be out ‘very soon’ and the company ‘will not stop innovating’.
