Honor, the budget smartphone sub-brand from Chinese company Huawei, has launched its new smartphone at CES 2017 — Honor 6X. The budget phone was originally launched in China in October this year. Now, the smartphone will be available in the US and Europe and later, in India.
The major highlight of the Honor 6X is its dual camera setup. The phone comes with a combo of 12 MP and 2 MP rear cameras, which also support phase detection auto focus (PDAF). On the front, there is an 8 MP camera sensor for taking selfies.
The smartphone features a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, and is powered by an octa-core Kirin 655 SoC. The storage on the device is expandable to 128GB using a microSD card slot. In China, the smartphone was launched in three variants — 3GB RAM/ 32GB inbuilt storage, 4GB RAM/ 32GB inbuilt storage, and 4GB RAM/ 64GB inbuilt storage.
The international models will be made available in two variants – 3GB RAM and 32GB storage; and 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Both the models will also include microSD slots. The device is powered by a 3340mAh battery with fast charging support. The company claims that you can use it for 2.15 days post a full charge, with 23 hours of airtime and 600 hours of standby time.
On the software front, it runs Huawei’s EMUI 4.1 skin on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. However, the company has promised an update to EMUI with Android 7.0 for Q2 2017. Connectivity options on the Honor 6X include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and GPS/ A-GPS.
The Honor 6X goes on sale today in the US, UK, and Europe directly through Honor’s vMall online outlet and via Amazon, starting at $250. It is available in grey, gold, and silver colours. Also, the UK telco Three will also sell the phone. In India, the phone is set to launch by the end of this month. However, no further information is available.
