On Tuesday, Facebook announced that is expanding the scope of its enterprise social platform ‘Workplace’ with the release of a new collaboration platform. This platform, which has been built atop the social network, aims to introduce support for third-party apps and integrations in the coming months.

Taking a jab at Slack, the most widely used communication and collaboration platform for businesses, Facebook Workplace is looking to allow companies to customize their social experience. This feature dubbed ‘Custom Integrations’ will allow companies to integrate the Workplace into their existing workflows.

These integrations are being made possible with the new Facebook Graph API, which helps organizations ensure that the social network complies with their single sign-on capabilities. This tool was released on stage at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in London.

Much like it copied features from popular ephemeral messaging app Snapchat, the company is now willing to add integrations similar to Slack. This will allow users to seamlessly integrate outside tools like CRM, calendars, emails, to-do lists, SaaS (software-as-a-service) services, and other productivity apps.

These include integrations from Salesforce, Box, Google, Asana and a lot more. The partnerships are potential examples and haven’t been set up just yet. The app will, however, be able to accomplish much more than one expects. It will be able to create alerts, post content to groups, and control notifications from other workflows within Workplace.

Debuting in October earlier this year, Facebook Workplace is a toned version of the popular social network we’re familiar with. Over a 1,000 companies are already using the platform within just two months of its launch. It might have step foot in a competitive field but is now planning to give tough competition to Slack, the recently launched Microsoft Teams and Google’s G Suite.
