The Indian populace being one of the largest (and fastest growing) turfs for Apple, the tech behemoth is finally expanding the scope of its music streaming app to benefit the students of the country. It has rolled out ‘student memberships’ tier for the Apple Music app to twenty-five new countries, and to our surprise, India is one of them.
This discounted pricing tier for Apple Music had previously been available in Australia, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and the United States. But, according to numerous reports, the Cupertino giant is making the same available in Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Chile, Colombia, Finland, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Switzerland, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates starting today.
This discounted student subscription plan is now available for a total of 32 countries across the globe. As for the eligibility, an excerpt on the official website reads:
If you’re a student at a degree-granting college or university, you can join Apple Music for a discounted membership price for up to 48 months (4 years). The time does not need to be continuous.
When you sign up for Apple Music, accessible both on iOS and Android, your application goes through a student verification service called UNiDAYS. This enables the Cupertino giant to confirm whether a user is enrolled in a degree-granting college or university, before handing out the student membership. It periodically evaluates your student status as well as keeps tracks of the membership time period. After the said 48-month period, your student membership is automatically converted to an individual one.
But doesn’t the key lies in the pricing?
For international users, in the U.S to be specific, the Apple Music Student Membership is for a hefty $4.99 per month. But, as one has come to expect, Apple is offering this membership at a mere ₹60 per month — which sounds like a better than expected deal. These charges are exactly half as compared to that of the Apple Music individual membership, which costs ₹120 per month. One could also go for a family membership for ₹190/month if all member owns an Apple device.
