Though we’re just a day out from the official announcement of the much anticipated Google Pixel smartphone lineup, but a UK-retailer thinks you should know about the complete details beforehand. Carphone Warehouse(CW), who’s probably more excited about the launch than we are, has listed almost all details for both the Pixel devices on its website.
So without wasting anymore time, let’s jump in and take a look at the duo of Pixel devices in all their glory.
At first look, you’ll notice that Google is keeping the Pixels inline with the Nexus lineup in one aspect i.e asortment (or just two) of color options. The Pixel smartphones, as seen above, will not only be made available in black but in white housing as well.
The images of the smaller Pixel as well as the larger Pixel XL suggest that the front of the phone will still host bulky bezels instead of an edge-to-edge display. On the other hand, the camera setup and antenna lines on the back of both the smartphones are exceptionally reminiscent to Apple’s iPhone 7. The only difference being the fingerprint sensor and the partly mirrored and matte finish panel on the rear(the reason for the same, still unknown!).
Now, we move on to the most important aspect of any smartphone — the internal specifications. We already had a rough idea about the specs, thanks to the insistent leaks that started pouring in months ago. The leaks suggested that the phones would house a quad-core 2.0 Ghz SoC, 4 gigs of RAM, 32 gigs of internal storage, and a 12+8 megapixel camera duo on the rear and front.
With its listing, CW has provided credability to all the previous leaks. It states that the Pixel devices would host a Snapdragon 821 processor, clocked at 2.15 Ghz and 4 gigs of RAM. This time around you’ll be able to choose from two internal storage options — 32 GB or 128 GB, but the listing also suggests the availability of a MicroSD card for storage expansion upto 256 GB. This, though, highly unlikely could help differentiate the Pixel lineup from the previous Nexus flagship phones, says Android Police.
The Pixel’s would host a 12-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 aperture, including an 8-megapixel camera for your selfie needs on the front. The smaller Pixel would sport a smaller 5.0-inch full-HD AMOLED display while the Pixel XL would come with a 5.5-inch Quad-HD display, both of them protected by Gorilla Glass 4. They’ll both come with a USB-C port with quick charging capabilites, and pack in a 2,770 mAh and 3,450 mAh battery respectively.
And this would be the second smartphone on the market to officially support the latest flavor of Android i.e Nougat. In addition, Google is banking upong its latest software, feature and app additions to woo customers. It will probably emphasize on its cross-platform low-latency Facetime competitor Duo; its fun, quirky and helpful chat application Allo; and the ever so powerful avatar of Google Now — Google Assistant. And remember the Live Cases, they’re also expected to make an appearance tomorrow.
CW gives us a detailed first look at the internal+external specifications, but there is no mention of price of availability of the pair of devices. But we’d previously reported that Google could price the devices much higher this time around, with the smaller 32 GB Pixel starting at $649.
And though these specifications are inline with all previous leaks, we’d still suggest you take this update with a grain of salt. One can never be too sure of the surprises Google has up its sleeve at the official launch event, scheduled for tomorrow i.e 4th October 2016.
Don’t forget to return tomorrow and join us in a detailed in-depth discussion about everything Google announces at the hardware launch event. Till then, wait patiently, and have a great day!
