After piloting it for quite some time now, uTorrent (μTorrent) is announcing a new, $4.95 annual subscription plan, thus helping you get rid of all those ads which you see while downloading content via the client.
This new $4.95 plan though, is actually a stripped down version of the μTorrent Pro plan, which costs $19.95 every year with a whole lot of other features. While that plan is still there, this new, intermediate one of sorts is a hugely welcome step, considering it is not heavy on pockets and does the core job — removal of ads. This will in turn, obviously result in much more paid signups for the service.
So how do you get the Ad-Free? Simple: Go here and click on “Upgrade to Ad-Free.” Here’s the new pricing plan structure :
You’ll have the option to pay $4.95 via various methods such as credit card or Paypal. Once you’ve completed that, you will receive a confirmation of payment via email, and then you can then install Ad-Free two ways:
-
Click on “Bundle Installer” link to get an executable file, which will take you through the install path.
-
Click on the “Personal License Key” link and download a file that you can drag into your existing client for an automatic update
Launched in 2005, uTorrent has rocjeted itself up the charts to become the most popular as well as resilient client for BitTorrent — the peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing protocol that was acquired by BitTorrent Inc. in 2006.
BitTorrent passed the 100 Million downloads mark last year on mobile alone across its web of apps, which includes uTorrent/BitTorrent for Android, uTorrent/BitTorrent Remote for Android, uTorrent Remote for iOS (Web app), and uTorrent Remote for Windows Phone.
