At an event today in Beijing, China, Xiaomi launched its new smartphone – the Redmi Note 3. The phone is the company’s first smartphone which comes with full-metal build and a fingerprint scanner and further takes it close to Apple — the brand it is usually accused for duplicating.

The Redmi Note 3 features a 5.5-inch full HD Sunlight display and comes with a dedicated reading mode. Under the hood, it is powered by a Mediatek Helio X10 64-bit octa-core processor, clocked at 2GHz.

It packs 2GB of RAM on the 16GB model and 3GB of RAM on the 32GB version. However, both versions comes with a microSD card slot which allows you to further expand the storage.

Running on MIUI 7 based on Android operating system, the dual SIM smartphone supports 4G LTE connectivity and is powered by a massive 4000mAh battery.

While there are many improvements over its predecessor, Redmi Note 2, the camera on this third-generation Redmi Note smartphone is same as of its predecessor. It comes with 13 MP rear facing camera with dual LED flash and PDAF and a 5 MP front facing camera.

The 8.6 mm thick smartphone weights around 164 grams. The 16GB variant has been priced at 899 yuan (approximately Rs 9,350), whereas the 32GB model is priced at 1,099 yuan (approximately Rs 11,400).

At the event, the company also launched the successor of its Mi Pad tablet, dubbed as Mi Pad 2. Compared to the previous model, new Mi Pad is 18 percent thinner and 38g lighter.

While the first Mi Pad was powered by Nvidia’s processor, this time, the company opted for an Intel Atom X5-Z8500 processor with an Intel Atom 64-bit CPU.

The Mi Pad 2 features a 7.9-inch display, 8 MP rear camera, 5 MP front facing camera, and is powered by a 6190 mAh battery. Xiaomi has also included a USB Type-C port in the device. It would have been great if Xiaomi had included the same port in the Redmi Note 3.

It will be available in two colours – Dark Grey and Champagne Gold. The pricing of the device starts from 999 RMB and will retail in both 32GB and 64GB variants. It will go on sale in China from November 27.

Along with the Redmi Note 3 and Mi Pad 2, Xiaomi also announced the second-generation of its smart air purifier, dubbed as Mi Purifier 2. The original Mi Purifier was launched last year.

Compared to its previous model, the newer version of the air purifier is claimed to be 58 percent more power efficient. The Mi Air Purifier 2 is priced at RMB 699, which is approximately Rs. 7,268.
