Helion-backed Wooplr, which lets you peep into local stores and share the products with your friends via FBing and Twittering, is now getting into the ‘social commerce’ sector. Earlier acting as a discovery platform, the app will help users shop in real time, and assist in deciding what to buy and where. Wooplr will also provide its users a personalized feed of curated fashion products.

Wooplr, founded in 2013 by four ex-McAfee employees, lets people discover new products from local stores around them through recommendations from friends & other social influencers. You can login to the platform using a Facebook or a Google+ account, browse through different local stores and share what you like, within your own network. It won the the Google AppExpo 2014 award.

With Wooplr on your phone, you can now view a highly personalized feed of curated fashion products, tailored to your personal taste. Not only that, users will also be able to follow their fashion icons and influencers on the platform. This feature, its makers believe, will allow users to discover the freshest fashion trends under categories like clothing, shoes, accessories, handbags etc.

In support of its growth strategy, the app had received $5 million funding in Series-A round from Helion Ventures.

Detailing out certain stats about his app, Co-Founder and CEO Arjun Zacharia says,

The platform has shown phenomenal growth through 2015. We’ve found that the app really clicks with women between the ages of 16 and 30 years, with over 30% of our user base being from Delhi alone. Our users include some of the country’s top fashion bloggers, college students, and a host of other demographics.

He further adds, that the app saw a whopping 10 Million views in June alone.

Social commerce is a relatively new concept in India. But, the users in our next door neighbor China, have already realized its fruitful potential. With companies like Mogujie having already set the trend, Wooplr is looking to be a pioneer in this field for India. “We set out with this very vision 2 years ago, and have stayed the path”, says Zacharia. “In recent times, we see more and more e-commerce brands veering towards our concept, as they realize that shopping is about a lot more than chunky discounts and endless product feeds.”

The app further erases the gaps in today’s online shopping segment by offering multi-channel options, thereby allowing users to shop from both online and brick-and-mortar stores. In this endeavor, Wooplr has already teamed up with established e-commerce brands like Jabong, StalkBuyLove and Koovs, and has exclusive associations with other well known retail brands.

“With this, we’re changing the game, not just for ourselves, but for the entire shopping industry. We recognize that shopping is much more than a personal experience. The Wooplr app is all about making fashion and shopping a more social and engaging affair. In one single app, users can now find style inspiration, and shop for it seamlessly. It’s the solution to all your style needs.” says its co-founder and Chief Product Officer Ankit Sabharwal.

Its makers believe that the present shopping preferences of the consumers relies heavily on their interactions on the social networking platforms. Making use of this behaviour to personalize and enhance the shopping experience of each user is the Wooplr’s social commerce platform,

The Wooplr mobile app is currently available for Android, iOS and the mobile web and aspires to re-define the shopping experience of each user from pure discovery to commerce-enabled shopping.
