As Snapdeal aggressively fights it out in the highly competitive e-commerce segment, a report by The Economic Times suggests that the firm is hiring former Aircel CFO Anup Vikal as it’s Finance Head.
The appointment, which could be effective starting October this year as per sources aware of the development, has been dubbed ‘speculation’ by Snapdeal and Anup Vikal himself has not yet responded to queries.
“Vikal has well rounded expertise across operations and strategic finance, and has good experience of working with entrepreneurs,” said the source. He will replace Aakash Moondhra, who quit as CFO of Snapdeal in April this year.
Graduated in mechanical engineering from NIT Surat, Vikal has experience in telecom giant Airtel as well, where he served as Finance Head. He had a stint with Inter-Globe Enterprises as Group CFO and head of IT& Strategy before signing up for Snapdeal’s assignment.
The appintment comes barely a month after the New-Delhi headquartered company hired Govind Rajan, an Airtel executive as it’s Chief Technical Officer after long-time CTO Amitabh Misra had resigned to take the entrepreneurial path.
Riding high on fresh $500 Million funding from the likes of Alibaba and Foxconn and pretty steep valuations, the marketplace is aiming to zoom ahead of rivals Amazon and Flipkart. It has seen a string of acquisitions lately, including one of the biggest in India’s startup history in the form of FreeCharge, mobility solutions company Letsgomo Labs and mobile merchant tech start-up MartMobi to strengthen its mobile commerce bets.
