NASA is set to hold a press conference later this week that will see the space research organization get into the new discoveries that have been made with regards to oceanic worlds in the solar system beyond our own beloved earth. The results that will be presented at this press conference will be the result of years upon years of NASA research and will also consist of inputs from the Cassini spacecraft, and the Hubble telescope.

Cassini, in case you are unaware of it, is a spacecraft that was launched way back in 1997. The craft arrived in the orbit around Saturn in 2004 and later this week, NASA will shed light upon all the discoveries this craft has made. The press conference is slated to began on Thursday, April 13 at 2PM ET or 11:30 PM IST. The conference is also likely to see a discussion of data from sources like the Hubble telescope.

The list of participants includes:

  • Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator, Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington
  • Jim Green, director, Planetary Science Division at NASA Headquarters
  • Mary Voytek, astrobiology senior scientist at NASA Headquarters
  • Linda Spilker, Cassini project scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California
  • Hunter Waite, Cassini Ion and Neutral Mass Spectrometer team lead at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in San Antonio
  • Chris Glein, Cassini INMS team associate at SwRI
  • William Sparks, astronomer with the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore

While NASA is unlikely to produce an alien out of nowhere, we could indeed discover some interesting insights from one of the most advanced scientific organizations in the world. There are actually a surprising number of oceanic world beyond the earth and while the presence of an ocean doesn’t guarantee life, it does produce some very interesting possibilities for further research including the different environments that can sustain life in one form or the other.

You can watch the press conference right below. Simply tune in at 11:30 PM IST on Thursday, 13th of April.
