Telegram has finally heard the long gone pleads for custom themes, one of the most demanded features in the app industry. The secure messaging app rolled out custom theme support for Android users via latest update V3.17. The feature brings in three themes for users to choose from, including the year-old default theme. The update further upscales Telegram’s position in the main market which faces a tough competition against Whatsapp and Messenger among others.

Out of the two freshly released themes, one of them is the simple and much-requested dark theme. The dark palette has been chosen by Telegram as such themes are widely popular these days, especially among the youth. The other one is a soothing blue which offers an option to the anti-dark populace. The color is quite calm and pleasing to the eyes.

Along with the introduction of custom theme support, Telegram now offers an inbuilt Theme Editor as well. Using the editor, you can create a custom look for the messenger. However, the feature is only extended to the desktop version of Telegram at the moment. The team has also produced a @themes channel. You can easily join the mentioned channel and submit your custom-created themes. You can even have a look at what other users are making.

The update has been rolled out to 85% of the Android users, while the rest have to wait for a few days. The waiting period, however, is stretched to two to three weeks for the update to spruce iOS platform. To switch to a different theme or create a new one, go to Settings > Themes in the app itself. The news was publicized through Telegram’s official blog which further stated,

We believe in freedom. We believe that if we give you freedom, you’ll know what to do with it.We are rolling out Custom Themes on Android, and will later support them on less popular platforms.Telegram themes are part of an open platform, so anybody can create a theme and dazzle the world with new colors and backgrounds.
