Fossil unveils its latest smartwatch – Gen 5 which marks the fifth-generation of Fossil’s smartwatch family. It runs on Google’s Wear OS platform and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip.

The waterproof device has a 44mm size case, a 1.3-inch touchscreen AMOLED display and comes with 1GB of RAM. The company claims that the once charges, the device can last up to 24 hours. Also, compared to Gen 4 which had 4GB internal memory, Gen 5 boasts an internal memory expandable up to 8GB.

With Wear OS, the smartwatch is compatible with almost every latest smartphone powered by Android or iOS. Also, it can be voice-controlled through Google Assistant. The watch comes with tiny speakers to hear the responses of the Assistant as well as for music and notifications. Further, online payments can be made through Gen 5 using the Google Pay application as well as NFC.

The device comes with a heart rate tracking feature which automatically traces the user’s heart rate during workouts or exercise. It also tracks the number of steps, distance, and calories burned. For connectivity, the device has Bluetooth 4.2 and WiFi.

Other notable features include untethered GPS, custom dials, customizable buttons, goal tracking, LED flashlight, interchangeable straps, and weather tracking.

The smartwatch has four different battery modes, namely, extended battery, daily, custom and time-only mode. Extended battery mode increases the battery life to multiple days, but only delivers core features and delivers only crucial notifications.

Gen 5 is Fossil’s first major device since Google bought $40 million worth of Fossil’s intellectual assets and technology earlier this year. Priced at $295, Gen 5 is available on Fossil’s online store in seven color and design variants.
