Samsung really needs a break. The company has been launching fairly successful phones on an on and off basis however, its been quite a while since it unveiled something truly dazzling. It now appears to be plotting to rectify that failing, and to ensure that its upcoming foldable smartphone is a success, has started dropping hints to developers.
This is something of a departure from tradition for Samsung, as the company is known for jealously guarding its secrets before launch. However, it appears that the company is ready to break some stereotypes as it attempts to make its next, foldable device a massive success. According to newly in reports, Samsung is gathering critical feedback to ensure that apps continue to run smoothly when the phone folds out into tablet form.
The South Korean smartphone manufacturer has not been doing particularly well over the past couple of years. Exploding phones, bad PR, and management tussles have all caused Samsung to cede market share to other smartphone manufacturers, including Apple. Perhaps that is why, Samsung is not willing to risk anything this time around.
As per a Samsung official who chose to remain unnamed,
Unlike our flagship products, the foldable phone is a completely new concept in terms of design and user experience, which requires a different approach. Before we take it to the market, we want to share with developers what we’ve done so far and see what they think of it.
Top-notch companies such as Samsung have been working to create foldable smartphones, with the understanding that they could create a new type of technology that would allow smartphones to essentially function as laptops and tablets. While Royole, a Chinese display making start-up, has already unveiled a foldable phone with a 7.8 inch screen, Huawei has promised to come up with one of its own by the year end.
As with all new technologies, early adapters will receive a massive advantage. With a slew of companies already on the move, Samsung needs to hurry if it wants to shock and awe folks with its foldable devices.
