Despite all the mass usage popularity and digital payments that Paytm enjoys in the subcontinent, it seems Google’s rebrande digital payments app, Google Pay (erstwhile known as Google Tez) has had a decent run so far.

The company, in an official blog post penned by Google’s VP of Payments Caesar Sengupta, has opened up some interesting numbers for all of us to ponder. Google Pay now has over 25 Million active users in India, with more than 1.2 Million businesses using the payments platform on a regular basis. To add to that, Google says that over 860 Million trasnactions have taken place over the Google Pay platform since last year’s launch.

The company also highlighted the efforts that have been taken up by the current Government, in making transactions go digital, specially within rural India. Just to put some numbers in here to set context, India’s monthly UPI transactions have grown 18X to 312M in August— making India one of the world’s leading innovators in digital payments.
