Adhering to design philosophies it annointed to most if its products, the old school Google revealed its brand new look that has changed after 14 years. The redesigned look makes it easier for users to interact with the interface. Its new look has the main Google News page now divided into three sections in the middle of the homepage. These are the top headlines list, a local list, as well as a personalized “For You” part.

The “For You” section contains specific news articles that are recommended to you based on preferences that you are asked to select before. This new update pushes Google News’ interface and technology forward to stand on par with the smart technology used by Apple News as well as the built-in systems of the likes of Facebook and Twitter.

This update is a welcome one especially as almost all of Google”s other services have been redesigned over the past few years, leaving News behind, looking old-fashioned and cluttered.

Anand Paka who is the product manager for Google News revealed the logic behind the new update to TechCrunch. According to him, the main idea was remove the clutter and make the service more easily reachable to those who are interested in mainstream news.

He said in a blog post,

Every day people come to Google News app for a trusted view of the world. It’s there for everything from moments of political change to gripping sports events to daily local news

To make news more accessible and easier to navigate, we redesigned the desktop website with a renewed focus on facts, diverse perspectives, and more control for users.

Other features of this new update include a complete cutoff of the long snippets of text that were earlier visible as well as individual share buttons for Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. All of this has been replaced by one universal button for all.

Google has also made its news reader a card-based interface. This allows each story to have its own space on the page and also shows links to related stories and topics. Photos, article sources, headlines, as well as the publishing time have all been given more prominent placements.

Another great feature you’re going to be seeing from this Google update is a new fact-checking bar on the right side of the desktop page from which you can see information from websites like PolitFace and Snopes.

While this update is currently only available to readers in America, this will roll out to other countries soon. Also, all of these features are only on the desktop version right now, but few are already being seen on the mobile interface as well. There is also a news app company who delivering really good and active news on daily basis, called awesummly news app and you can also read short news directly from their official website: https://www.awesummly.com/news/
