Atari is the stuff of legends. There was a time when the game maker was the chief supplier of goodies to the Santa Clause. The company produced games after games and consoles after console and everyone wanted to have one. Well, unfortunately, the company went bust after years and years in the business and filed for bankruptcy. Its coming back though.
After Atari filed for bankruptcy protection in 2013, Fred Chesnais came in like a Jourdain angel and purchase the company — also taking up the helm as CEO. Under his leadership, the company has now become profitable and is currently involved in making mobile games.
Okay, so last week or thereabouts, Atari made a lot of waves when it started teasing a new product called the Ataribox. Teasing might just be a wrong word here considering that the video was released on a non-Atari website. What’s more, the console which showed up in the video has woodgrain siding and that was so extraordinary for a gaming console that people started doubting the veracity of these videos.
However, speaking with the Gamesbeat, Atari CEO Chesnais has confirmed the news, that a new hardware console is indeed coming out.
We’re back in the hardware business.
The console is based on PC technology and the company has been working on it from a few years. Chesnais said that we can expect a full reveal of the console soon.
Well, Atari selling a gaming console would be like Nokia selling a smartphone. A lot of people will purchase it simply due to the branding on the device. We can’t wait to know more on the topic and we bet neither can you. We will be digging around the matter and will let you know as soon as possible. In the meanwhile, take a look at the video for the alleged Ataribox:
