At the ongoing Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple streamed the very first episode of its very first original reality TV series called Planet of the Apps. And not only that, Cupertino then made the first episode of the said Shark Tank-esque show available on Apple Music for everyone to get a dose of some fresh and innovative ideas. It is also available on iTunes if you’d like to watch the first episode right away.
To attract viewers and give them a first-hand look at the original series, Apple has decided to gift the first episode of ‘Planet of the Apps’ for free to everyone. All subsequent episodes of this TV show will only be made available to Apple Music subscribers, with one new episode making it to the streaming service each week.
What’s the next big idea? Watch the first episode tonight on @AppleMusic. #PlanetOfTheApps https://t.co/vzgU9k2btZ pic.twitter.com/5BvewnmOQk

If you’re unaware of the concept of this show (or haven’t watched a single episode of Shark Tank) then you should know that it is all about developers pitching their app ideas in front of an exceptional panel of expert judges including Gary Vaynerchuk, Jessica Alba, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Will.i.am. Apple has managed to onboard some of the biggest and impressive names from the entrepreneur ecosystem to drive users towards the same — but will its strategy be successful still needs to be seen.
The first season of Planet of the Apps will run for ten episodes, where some of the top developers will participate in an elevator pitching event — no, wait! — it will be an escalator pitching event. Apple has modeled the TV show such that the developers will have sixty seconds to pitch their idea while coming down a real escalator. And since we’re the participants of a Tinder generation, you’ll see the judges swipe right or left on their tablets to choose their picks. Sounds fun, right?
While we’ve all been expecting Apple to kick off its original video content strategy with Carpool Karaoke, a spin-off series based off James Corden’s popular web series of the same name. But, the said series has been facing insistent delays and will now make an official debut on August 8. It will feature Hollywood celebrities, musical artists, and others spending a complete day together and driving around the city to get to their next fun experience.
I cannot wait to witness Gary Vaynerchuk speak his mind out to the participant developers. Brb after watching the first episode. Comment your thoughts on the concept of Planet of the Apps down below. Is it too gimmicky?
