Gurugram-based Oyo Rooms plans to hire 5,000 people over the next eight months. The budget hotel room aggregator is currently changing up its asset light marketplace to add a full-stock hotelier model.
Earlier this month, Oyo founder Ritesh Agarwal had stated the company intends to add 200 ‘townhouse hotels‘ in different parts of the country. The said initiative was to include 60 hotels spread across seven cities by the end of this very year. Townhouses are a full stack hotelier model that requires large-scale hiring across functions and capabilities.
The company plans to hire using outsourcing. Earlier this week, the company signed seven-year multi-million dollar contract with leading RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing) service provider, PeopleStrong. Theis contract is worth $2 million per annum and includes hiring for different departments including sales, marketing, technology, and hospitality.
Dinesh R, the chief human resource officer at Oyo Rooms said,
We take pride in our pioneering technology-led approach and leadership in this industry, because of which we will focus on continuing to employ technology as a primary enabler. However, there are key skill sets, which are important, and we will bring more talent there.
He also said that Oyo’s focus will be on different skill sets during the upcoming hiring process from significant talent pools. While he did not reveal the size of the hire, Shelley Singh, the co-founder of PeopleStrong also just confirmed the contract with Oyo Rooms in a statement. However, she also did not reveal details about the hire.
Recently, in April, Economic Times reported that Oyo intended to add variety to its existing business model by focusing on leisure travelers. This move comes on the heels of the growth it is witnessing in its main segment which is aggregating accommodations in business centres in metropolitan cities and towns in the country. More that 70 percent of Oyo’s business comes from these business centres. Currently, Oyo has collaborated with 500 hotels and has over 6,000 rooms under its umbrella.
