Intel is a progressing technology company and management reshuffling at senior levels is nothing new. Thus, the leading chipmaker has today announced that long-time executive Diane Bryant is stepping down from her role as Senior VP and General Manager of the Data Center Group (DCG).
This major development, which affects two prominent divisions within the company, was shared with employees by Intel CEO Brian Krzanich through an internal email. He mentioned that Bryant is taking an extended leave of absence – she’s stepping down for about six to eight months — to tend to some personal family matter.
As mentioned in the press statement, Krzanich believes that the leave period is quite lengthy and this major position needs to be filled right away. The chipmaker did mull over the appointment of an interim boss for DCG, which is its second largest business in terms of revenue, but concluded it was better to stay focused. Thus, Navin Shenoy, General Manager of the Client Computing Group (CCG) has been moved to lead the DCG team here onwards.
Given the extended duration, an interim leader for the Data Center Group (DCG) is not possible. As a result, I have asked Navin Shenoy to take the position of general manager of DCG.
Diane Bryant has been a long-time, well-respected executive at the chipmaker. Back in 2005, she kicked off her journey with Intel as she was appointed as the VP and General Manager of Enterprise Volume Servers. About three years later, she was then bumped up to the position of Chief Information Officer — a position she held for nearly four years. In 2012, over five years back, she was appointed to lead the data center division of the company and it has only flourished since then.
Continuing to talk about the same, Krzanich mentions in his statement:
Over the past five years, Diane has transformed DCG from a server-centric group to a business that spans servers, network and storage across all end-user segments, and with product lines and business models that extend beyond the traditional.
While replacing Bryant and her work in the data center division would be no small task, but Intel believes Navin Shenoy is a suitable fit for the position. As for Shenoy, he has been connected to the chipmaker way before Bryant even joined the company. He became a part of the pack in 1995 and has been appointed to various roles across the company, ranging from sales and marketing to the PC and tablet businesses.
He has also been awarded some prominent roles within Intel over the past decade. Shenoy was appointed as VP and GM of the APAC region, where he spearheaded the company’s efforts and led to its penetration into developing markets in this region. Most recently, he had been leading the Client Computing Group (CCG), where he was responsible for the P&L, strategy and product development. It is now being handed over to Murthy Renduchintala, who’ll act as the acting leader for the time being.
In the internal email, Krzanich writes that Shenoy will report directly to him. He continues to mention:
Navin and Diane have been instrumental to Intel’s success and our executive leadership team over the past few years. They will work closely together for the next month to ensure a smooth transition for the organization and our customers.
Shenoy is said to have a hands-on approach to the responsibilities he undertakes, something which has been witnessed along with the success of the PC business. He is prepping to emulate the same success and port over his hands-on approach to the data center group as well. This business is performing exceptionally strong and the company’s clients — who buy, use, and develop for servers — should be excited with his appointment to the division.
