Uber, ubereats

When was the lat time you ate at McDonald’s? Chances are, fairly recently.  The company is now partnering up with Uber in a bid to deliver food to more and more customers. Apparently, McDonald’s is planning to enter into a more detailed relationship with Uber in a bit to ger food delivered to customers in many more US cities.

McDonald’s has been testing delivery of its food through the UberEats mobile application in as many as 200 restaurants. The company said that it will launch deliveries in several new cities by June end.

Speaking on the topic, CEO Steve Easterbrook said:

We’re encouraged about the start we’ve had. We are not in test mode, we are expanding.

Commenting on the advantages McDonald’s has over its competitors, Easterbrook said:

One of our greatest competitive advantages is that we’re closer to more customers than any other restaurant company in the world, with nearly 75% of the population in our five largest markets living within three miles of a McDonald’s.

He added:

On top of that, we have 20+ years of delivery experience in Asia and the Middle East. We’re working aggressively to identify the right operating models for bringing delivery to more customers–whether we control all aspects of the delivery process from end to end or partner with third parties for ordering and fulfilment. We have a number of pilots underway and plan to scale quickly based on results

A partnership with UberEats will only make the company’s presence even more ubiquitous — if such a thing is possible. The partnership cold be a precursor to similar deals in other, developing countries and that cold really help McDonald’s pick up some speed.
