Google’s very old wish of making its search engine even more compatible with the iOS has received a push today, when the company announced some new features for its search engine app on the iOS. The Gboard app, which was previously an independent keyboard app, has now been added to the main iOS search app. The other additions includes support to a bundle of 3D touch options along with a new Google search widget.
In case you may remember, Gboard was launched last year, just in times when a majority of Apple users demanded for a third party keyboard app. The intent behind using a Google branded keyboard is pretty much what it is with most of the other Google products on iOS, to lure more Apple users towards Google’s services.
Gboard brings with it a long list of tools which enhance your messaging experiences, where some key features include built-in GIF search, sustains glide typing, ability to search emojis instead of scrolling and a better voice transcription than Apple. Apart from all this, it also performs quick search on Google to provide you datas like weather report, traffic updates, nearby restaurants in the area, or news, videos and score updates.
Along with this, the app update brings with it a new “Trending on Google” widget, which could flash in iOS notification bar. This feature will provide you with breaking news or trending topics being searched on Google. Once you tap on them, you will be led to Google app for more updates.
For enabling the widget, you may tap on Edit from the bottom of the Notification Center, or simply use the 3D Touch option on the app icon. After ths you will able to see a preview of the widget along with an option of adding to your Notification Center.
The 3D touch option brings forth other search options as well, which includes initiating voice search, image search or going incognito, and the latest feature of a Quick Search option, which performs quickly in order to take your cursor directly to the search tab faster than the times you would wait for the home screen to load.
3D touch is also integrated with the search app. From now on, you may hard press on the search “G” button at the base of the screen, to initiate a new search anytime anywhere.
All these features are now available with new updates of Google Search app for iOS.
