Augmented Reality is the next big Apple. And you can bet that Apple is taking some serious interest in the same. As per a brand new Bloomberg report, the company is working on augmented reality features for the iPhone. The company also has a new device called “Glasses” within its sights, which could then be paired with your smartphone.
The company has apparently pulled together a team to take on the project. The team is apparently being led by Mike Rockwell, who brings a vast trove of experience obtained from working with Dolby, to the table.
Apple had recruited Dolby Executive Vice President Mike Rockwell early on to become an executive in its hardware division. Rockwell was hired to work upon and bolster the audio and display performance of future Apple products. However, the company appears to have come additional plans for his talent as well.
The team also includes Cody White, who is a a former lead Amazon engineer. Also in on the team is Duncan McRoberts, the former director of software development at Meta. The team also has a researchers from Oculus, HoloLens and engineers from Hollywood movies.
While the company has not revealed any details regarding the project, it is being estimated that hundreds of engineers could be working upon Apple’s AR projects.
Details are scarce but Apple could soon introduce some augmented reality features in the Camera app. For instance, the company could allow the camera to detect faces in the picture frame. There is really no limit to what can be done with AR.
Meanwhile, we await an official word from Apple regarding the matter. The company has kept decidedly mum on the matter — a move which is probably wise considering the fact that many other companies have tried and failed in their AR ambition.
