Ride-hailing firms are more than eager to be pronounced the “leader” of the industry. Battlegrounds have been set up in the major economies where firms seem to be modifying the definition of competition. China saw the rivalry between Uber and Didi Chuxing, where Didi ended up taking over the former’s operations. The dominance probably won’t last long, as other firms are rising to fill the gap that Uber’s withdrawal created.

In India, the prominent players are Uber and Ola, but this might soon be the news of past. Grab, the leading cab aggregator of Southeast Asia, is probably entering the country. The firm which has its presence in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, China, and the USA, is seeking to hire people in India.

It is understood that Grab is actively looking for people interested in working as Senior Backend, Frontend, Full-stack, Mobile iOS/Android, Security, Test Automation, Software Test and Systems/DevOps Engineers. The firm seems to be exclusively keen to add more engineers to its team, that too based out in India.

This suggests either Grab is planning to set up an R&D center or better yet, this is a move to officially penetrate the Indian market. Taking into consideration the relative low infrastructure and low talent acquisition costs that India possesses, either of the two is probable. The event, Grab Bangalore Engineering Hiring Drive, is scheduled for 24th and 25th March and is supposedly slated to take place in Bangalore.

Grab, currently valued at over $3 billion has raised funds worth more than $1 billion. It has been strategically deploying the capital, with recently committing to investments worth $700 million in Indonesia. Its services include GrabBike – bike taxi service, GrabHitch – its carpooling service, GrabFood- food delivery service, and GrabExpress.
