mi mix, xiaomi, mi mix 2

Xiaomi launched a charming concept phone called ‘Mi Mix’ exclusively for the Chinese market, a few months ago. Of the amazing features, the smartphone packed in a crisp 6.4-inch bezel-less display which buzzed in record breaking sales for the device. Thus, Xiaomi now plans to emulate the same success on a global scale with the roll out of Mi Mix outside of China.

Mi Mix has already crossed boundaries with its launch in UAE, where it is now expected to go on sale sometime in March. For UAE, the phone is priced at $815 (AED 2,999 price tag) which may vary depending on the country taxes and policies. The device was just recently described as “coming soon” on the Chinese company’s official website for the MENA (The Middle East and North Africa) region, which further validates a sooner launch outside China.

The edgeless display for the handset was designed by French designer Philippe Starck. The smartphone comes encased in a glossy black ceramic body, along with the back, frame, buttons and even the acoustic system to provide it with a premium and tough feel. The same designer is currently working on Mi Mix’s successor which will take the design aesthetics further up.

Mi Mix runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor clocked at 2.35 Ghz. It has then been coupled with a 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. It also packs in a 4,400 mAh battery to juice up the phone, which features Quick charge 3.0 technology. The phone functions on Android Marshmallow 6.0 with Xiaomi’s own custom MIUI 8 on top of it.

Xiaomi’s announcement seems to be a way to secure some limelight as the Chinese manufacturer will be missing from MWC in Barcelona this year. The company has also scheduled the unveiling of its in-house ‘Pinecone’ mobile chipsets on February 28 at the Beijing National Convention Centre, China. The launch coinciding with MWC 2017 doesn’t come as much of a surprise — but it surely adds to the existing hype.
