In what is a huge push for the US based cab aggregator, Lyft has expanded its services to as many as 54 new cities across the US. The company had promised that it would make a bid to push its services to more locations across the US in this year, early on.  And it is now making good on its promise with its largest simultaneous expansion to date.

The cities included in this particular round of expansion are:

  • Lakeland
  • Ocala
  • Pensacola
  • Port St. Lucie
  • Fort Myers
  • Fredericksburg
  • Springfield
  • Martinsburg
  • Worcester
  • Morgantown
  • Amarillo
  • Bismarck
  • Fargo
  • Grand Forks
  • Ames
  • Cedar Rapids
  • Davenport
  • Des Moines
  • Dubuque
  • Iowa City
  • Sioux City
  • Huntington
  • Carbondale
  • Decatur
  • Kankakee
  • Evansville
  • Gary
  • Muncie
  • Terre Haute
  • Manhattan
  • Topeka
  • Flint
  • Jackson
  • Kalamazoo
  • Parkersburg
  • Saginaw
  • Mankato
  • Rochester
  • St. Cloud

  • Eau Claire
  • Fond du Lac
  • La Crosse
  • Janesville
  • La Crosse
  • Sheboygan
  • Birmingham
  • Augusta
  • Brunswick
  • Columbus
  • Macon

Phew, that was one long list. Meanwhile, Lyft’s expansion plans included getting into 100 new markets this year. The ride hailing company had already launched in 40 new markets in January. So, with today’s roll out the company has managed to reach 94 new cities and there are only 6 more to go for the company to reach its goal for 2017.

So, in total, the company has a presence in 300 cities across the breadth of the US. Meanwhile, once the company reaches its expansion plans for the year, we can expect it to focus upon other things as well. For example, Lyft could now focus its resources upon things like autonomous cars. The company is lagging behind Uber, which has already launched autonomous cars in different US markets, with its latest roll-out in the state of Arizona.

The company could also look into expanding into international markets, which is another area where it lags behind competitor Uber. Well, let’s see what the new year brings for Lyft, it is certainly off to a great start.
