Melbourne-based fintech firm PromisePay has declared a change in its name— henceforth, branded as Assembly Payments and alongside, striking a deal with eBay-owned Gumtree.

The partnership will enable customers to use local, home services such as skilled tradesmen, cleaners, and machine repairers. With Gumtree Connect browsers, users can find and request services through the app, submit a quote for quote acceptance and job scheduling, and finally, get the requested job completed all online. The financial aspects of the transaction such as credibility checks and payments, will be handled by Assembly Payments.

Since 2013, Assembly Payments has grown to more than 80 employees across North America and Asia Pacific, leading in more than 100 marketplaces and platforms with innovative payments.

Touted as the world’s most flexible payments platform, Assembly Payments is the only end-to-end solution that lets users accept, manage, and disburse payments, while dealing with fraud, security, compliance, and customer service.

Founder and Chief Executive of Assembly Payments, Simon Lee describes the partnership as an opportunity to associate itself with one of the world’s largest classifieds company. Lee says,

It’s always great when big brands look all over the world and choose us. Being part of eBay they have a lot of experience and insights into payments, so this is a great win, and there is great potential to do more with them down the track.

Lee further states that this partnership with eBay means demonstrates that the company has now finally arrived “on the global stage.” He further says,

For them to look over the world and choose Assembly is hugely gratifying. Giving Gumtree the ability to provide safe and secure transactions on mobile and online gives them a massive advantage over competing marketplaces in the home services space.

Andre Hugo, Gumtree head of verticals further comments on the partnership:

Their expertise in areas such as fraud, chargebacks, compliance, escrow and customer support has meant they are a great fit for Gumtree. What we wanted to do is to make the process of connecting, communicating and paying for services much easier for the consumer, while simultaneously making it much easier for service providers to generate leads, perform the work and get paid.
