IT major Oracle has been sued by U.S. Department of Labor for making discriminations in its employment practices. The announcement of the lawsuit came on Wednesday by the government. The Department of Labor clearly states that Oracle has a habit of paying Caucasian male workers more that their female counterparts for the same job which is actually an injustice against “women, African American and Asian employees.”
The lawsuit also states that Oracle has a biased hiring practice, where Asians are given a special favour in the recruitments for technical and product roles, which is again an act of discriminations against the non-Asians aspiring for the same role. Being a federal contractor providing services, hardware and software to the U.S. Government, the U.S. Department of Labor assumes the duty of bringing the lawsuit forward. Afterall, it is the duty of the federal contractors to sustain a candid and fair recruitment practice.
In response, Oracle declines the allegations. A company spokesperson provided the following statement to TechCrunch;
The complaint is politically motivated, based on false allegations, and wholly without merit. Oracle values diversity and inclusion, and is a responsible equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. Our hiring and pay decisions are non-discriminatory and made based on legitimate business factors including experience and merit.
Wow, calling a department of labor allegation as politically motivated is pretty harsh. Oracle must be pissed. Meanwhile, the case will likely be taken up and investigated so that the truth of the matter can be found. However, if truth is found in the charges, it wont go down well for the company.
Previously, the company had received plenty of contracts from the federal government. If Oracle is found guilty of the charges, it may face very serious aftermaths which include the cancellation of all the present government contracts, as well as a ban on receiving future contracts from the federal government.
