Twitter might not have the largest user base among the cohort of social networking websites but it’s still an active ground for discussion that revolves around current topics. The micro-blogging platform is continually trying to simplify the features on the platform to make it a more attractive package for new users.
Thus, with regard to the same, CEO Jack Dorsey decided to question his followers about what they want to see the company add to Twitter in the coming year. And this wasn’t a sudden gesture. He took inspiration from Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky, who tweeted something similar around Christmas.
Following in the footsteps of Brian Chesky: what’s the most important thing you want to see Twitter improve or create in 2017? #Twitter2017

And as one would’ve obviously expected, the most requested feature which is still missing from Twitter made an appearance at once. Yes, we are talking about the functionality to edit a tweet. The micro-blogging platform hasn’t provided users with the feature to edit the tweets they share with their followers till date. But Jack Dorsey has now also expressed his interest about the addition of the same, and the company is now mulling on how to accomplish the task.
@howardlindzon not sure why you’re quoting this tweet but yes, a form of edit is def needed. But for everyone, not just those w badges

The implementation of the edit feature is what the co-founder of this micro-blogging platform wanted the community to help him figure out next. Though the editing feature might seem like an easy inclusion within Twitter but there’s a lot of work that’ll be required to configure the same on the backend.
@michaelpachter I’m listening. And what do you want from edit? Quickly fix mistakes or edit anytime?

@AnthonyQuintano edit mistakes quickly or edit anytime? Big dif in implementation. Latter requires change log as we’re oft the public record
— jack (@jack) December 29, 2016
He further airs his concerns of making the records public if editing is allowed at any moment of time rather than just a couple minutes from the tweet. And further questioned whether a five minute correction window for making the necessary changes to a tweet be enough or not.
@cloleaf is it more important to edit for spelling/corrections? 5 minute window to edit mistakes or do you need to be able to edit anytime?

With the recent executive shuffle at Twitter, the company is now planning to make the product more desirable. And what’s more better than asking your community about the features they want to see incorporated to make tweeting feel breezier. It will also be looking to play catch up with Facebook, Snapchat and other in the coming months, both in terms of features as well as user count — if it isn’t acquired until then.
