As an answer to many customers’ need for a way to connect their own speakers to Echo, Amazon unveiled the Echo Dot, this March. Unfortunately, the device was quite pricey at a strong $90 but still sold well. Now, the Echo Dot is back in stock at an even lower price of just $50.
We already knew that the Echo Dot was going to make a comeback soon because of an accidental tweet Amazon posted earlier this week.
The Echo Dot, if you don’t know already, is an Alexa-powered device which offers many of the same features that its larger counter-parts offer. You can use the smart speaker to do things like play music, read the news, check the weather, control your connected home appliances, set timers, use apps and a whole lot more. It will also enable you to use your voice to control your home entertainment system or just have a nice chat with the fun and bubbly Alexa.
Additionally, the Echo Dot is a piece of hardware that can be linked with others of its same kind. That means you can buy multiple Dots and dot them around your house (no pun intended!). This will allow you to talk to Alexa, wherever you are and a response will be sent from the speaker closest to you. How cool is that!
This technology works thanks to a faster new speech processor combined with Dot’s feature called ESP (Echo Spatial Perception). Spatial perception helps the Echo figure out where exactly you are and trigger your closest Dot. According to the company, ESP’s performance will improve over time, so it will resolve the problem of multiple Echo devices answering you simultaneously.
The device can be connected to your entertainment system via either Bluetooth or a 3.5 mm stereo cable. From there, you can use it to play music from Amazon Music, Prime Music, Pandora, Spotify, iHeartRadio, TuneIn and others.
