Yup ! No more continous refreshing of pages and scouting for people/media publications (like us!) giving away free OnePlus device invites. The company has announced, that it has decided to let go off this trademark selling style and will launch the all new, OnePlus 3, in an invite-free mode.

The announcement perhaps comes at just the right time. OnePlus has garnered great reviews for its low cost, yet high specs handsets with most reviewers rating it at part with premium Android smartphones. The company has been largely able to justify its ‘flagship killer’ tag lines and also vaguely claims of selling millions of devices via invites.

The company writes,

We’re releasing the OnePlus 3 invite-free, right from launch day. In addition, invites are gone forever from future OnePlus product launches.

OnePlus however, has quite assertively defended the need for an invite system. The below few lines pretty much describe the feeling behind going away with the invite system, and the need for it in the first place.

The invite system has a special place in our history. When we first started out, our team was incredibly small. We had no idea what the demand of the OnePlus One would look like. We also weren’t fans of flash sales, where there’s a risk of everything selling out immediately, forcing fans to wait indefinitely. To address this, we designed the invite system to give customers a chance to purchase a phone as soon as we had inventory ready.

The demand for the OnePlus One was much higher than expected. Some got into a frenzy hunting for invites, while others have complained continuously and loudly ever since. Regardless though, the invite system allowed us to scale our operations and manage our risks to help us grow more sustainably.

OnePlus 3’s launch will happen within The Loop, OnePlus’ VR headset’s environment, for which the company recently announced over 30000 give aways. Stay tuned.
