Startups in the education sector seems to be on a roll right now. Adding to the recent list of ed-tech startups raising funds,  Prepathon – a learning app for competitive exams has secured an undisclosed angel round from Blume Ventures.

With new funds coming to the company, it will now be adding another 50 courses to Prepathon, which presently has courses in courses in banking, government, management and engineering exams.

Launched in September 2015, Prepathon provides comprehensive course materials, created by experts. It has a WhatsApp-like chat feature to interact with experts and also a question bank updated daily, apart from a platform to participate with like-minded student. The company is offering both – free and paid plans for the courses.

The app comprises of three main features – learn, discuss and coach. The learning module is where a student can find all course content; discuss is a forum where students can discuss various topics and coach is the critical and important component.

The company has also introduced a new feature called bots that will monitor student’s performance and give suggestion to the coach. With the help of bots, the coaches can manage 1000 students on a regular day.

Since its launch, the app has managed to garner 1,50,000 downloads. It is also planning to expand into 17 other preparatory courses as well. While it is only available on Android right now, it also plans to launch an iOS app soon.

Commenting about this funding, Karthik Reddy, Founder, Blume ventures said,

Prepathon leverages the right mix of community, personalized coaching and the beginnings of bot technology for interactive learning. It’s exciting to see education models getting a fresh lease of life and Indian products like Prepathon trying to build new global models.

The Indian education market is expected to grow at the CAGR rate of 17.50 per cent from 2014-19. Yesterday, received an undisclosed sum in pre-Series A round from Brand Capital. Prior to that, many startups in this space have raised funding, such as Oliveboard, FlipClass, Oust Labs, Myly, Schoolguru, etc.
