BookMyShow, India’s largest and single-handedly dominant online ticket booking platform, has announced its partnership with Uber. And as it would suggest, the team up will enable movie goers to book an Uber when they buy their tickets on the BookMyShow mobile app.
Once the user books a ticket using the Bookmyshow app, he/she will get an option of ‘Ride Now’. Once the user has selected the option, it will take him/her to the Uber app for booking the taxi.
Uber has also integrated a reminder service into the Bookmyshow app. With reminder feature, customer will receive a notification to book a cab before the event.
Marzdi Kalianiwala, vice president of business intelligence at BookMyShow, said,
We are expecting 15-20% of our users to opt for booking an Uber, specifically expecting traction in the top 10 cities. At present, we are not looking at it as a revenue driver but there is a small component of revenue share, however, negligible in the bigger scheme of things.
This integration is another addition to the growing list of service providers Uber has tied up with, in India. Uber had launched its trip experiences API in Bengaluru in January 2016.
The API feature promises to enhance and take your trips to the next level and enables third-party services to integrate Uber using this API. The company has partnered with several companies, including Housing.com, Satyam Cinemas, and Happitoo.
Uber has also tied up with Zomato, Redbus and Cleartrip. You can now call Uber from the Zomato app while you’re searching for a restaurant.
Amit Jain, India Head of Uber, said,
At Uber we believe that users should have seamless experiences while doing anything on the web. With BookmyShow integration, we want user’s movie watching experience to be better. This is the first instance we have integrated Uber’s Ride Reminder API in India.
He further said that the company’s initial focus will be on customizing the rider experience for India with the help of technology. Uber says that it has recently launched Experience API which will help integrate the ride experience better.
Uber recently launched bike taxi service UberMoto in Bengaluru. But, after Karnataka government termed it illegal and seized vehicles, the company announced waving off the service charge fee making it a ‘Bike pooling’ service.
