Google has just landed virtual reality out of the pockets of complicated technology into the domain of lay-man, by launching a new app that works with the Google Cardboard Camera.

With the new app, users can click photos that can be viewed in the Cardboard Camera to stimulate an experience of virtual reality. The app does this by taking a 360 degree panoramic shot of the scene, while also capturing the surrounding sound in the process. The magic of virtual reality is then created by the Cardboard Camera to give a sort of 3-D like experience of the landscape.

Once the app is installed on your smartphone, all you have to do is hold the phone vertically, select the camera option and just turn around a full circle. It is similar to shooting a panoramic picture, only difference is that you are taking a 360 degree shot of the scene. The app also records small audio clip of the surround in the process. When this image is viewed using Cardboard Camera, the viewer can experience the scene as stimulated virtual reality. This is a great way to show your friends your deepest experiences and share your joys of being at a place – for instance, the Grand Canyon – in a completely subjective manner.

The Cardboard Camera produces a 3-D effect as objects in the background appear further than the objects in the foreground. The only catch with this is that the bottom and top part of the image are blank. A complete picture would had definably been something to look after in the app and the Cardboard Camera. But, never the less it is still a great way to begin and this is something that can offer an array of possibility in the future with the Google initiative.
