India’s homegrown taxi aggregator upstart Ola has announced the release of a new API aimed towards developers and major mobile applications. Through this new API, Ola forays into the app development platform, in a bid to further popularize its brand identity.

Developers can access the API to include integrations across ride availability, estimation, booking and tracking, allowing partners to complete their experience for their users with Ola, the company stated.

Ola has partnered with Samsung, MakeMyTrip, InMobi, and Helpchat, who have already integrated the interface and demonstrated its features before Ola’s API Hackathon – it’s first such event – which not only saw the participation from the above companies, but also other developers and product managers.

The company also made public it’s ambitious target of reaching “a  user base of over a 100 million through its API partners in the next two years”.

Many more leading mobile apps and technology brands are already working on integrating Ola’s API, extending a first of its kind experience to their users. The APIs are also expected to evolve rapidly, allowing for integrations across Ola Money and newer categories and use cases available on the Ola app”.

The hackathon event, held earlier today in partnership with Venturesity, proved to be a launching pad for the API platform. The event saw participation from developers, experienced professionals and startup enthusiasts competing for a prize money of INR 400,000. along with AWS credits of up to 2000 USD.
